TJ Living Community Initiatives
Compassion meets community in the year-round initiatives led by the Chinese Taoism Kuan-Kung Association in Canada under the leadership of TJ Living volunteers.
At the heart of our mission is a commitment to creating positive change in society and giving back to the community.
About TJ Living
A platform where passion and dreams become reality.
Many people have fantastic ideas for making the world better, but sometimes they need a little help putting those ideas into action.
That's where TJ Living comes in. We bring together talented and like-minded folks, offering support, advice, and expertise to turn those great ideas into reality. With mentorship opportunities and a supportive community, we help individuals grow, learn, and gain valuable experience along the way.
Our volunteers are the driving force behind our community outreach efforts. Alongside preparing winter care packages for the homeless and regularly stocking the Community Fridge, they also extend their support through activities like organizing weekly afternoon tea for seniors and performing at festivals to promote traditional Chinese culture.
We warmly welcome new members to join us in our mission of making a difference together.

TJ Fest
Our annual cultural celebration, TJ Fest, takes place every May, drawing in over two thousand visitors. The street festival offers a vibrant showcase of local talent, mouthwatering Taiwanese cuisine, and a range of family-friendly activities.

Community Fridge
Our Community Fridge is located right outside our temple and regularly stocked with essentials like baked goods, pantry items, and prepared meals. Thanks to the generosity of local businesses, we receive regular donations, ensuring we can support those in need, particularly vulnerable seniors and newcomers.

Community Hot Lunch
Each Saturday, we host a Community Hot Lunch and Senior Afternoon Tea, inviting seniors and new immigrants to enjoy a delicious meal, connect with friends, and share a delightful afternoon of community and companionship.

TJ Senior Hub
The Senior Hub was born out of the desire to address the intensified isolation of seniors during and after COVID-19. Each week, seniors in the neighbourhood come together over afternoon tea, fostering meaningful connections through group activities like painting, cooking, exercising, and learning each others' languages.

Annual Food Bank donations
Twice a year, the Tian-Jin Ceremony brings families together to honour their ancestors. All non-perishable food offerings—approximately 20,000 pounds per ceremony—are donated to the local food bank. Over the past decade, the temple has contributed over 200,000 pounds of food.

Cultural Performing Arts
Our traditional Chinese drum team and Eight Generals Troupe, made up of enthusiastic, talented volunteers wearing vibrant face paint and traditional outfits, are invited to yearly events across the Lower Mainland. Their captivating shows proudly highlight Chinese culture for everyone to enjoy.

Winter Warmth Care Packages
In the colder months, TJ Living volunteers partner with Burnaby Southside Community Church to craft and deliver essential winter care packages to vulnerable populations. Since 2018, we've provided more than 4,000 warming kits of blankets, scarves, mittens, socks, and additional items.

Coldest Night of the Year
In February, TJ Living volunteers cheerfully join the Coldest Night of the Year fundraiser walk and raise funds for people experiencing hurt, hunger, and homelessness.

Monthly Sandwich Distribution
Every month, we prepare sandwiches in our commercial kitchen and distribute them to a local church. Through this partnership, the church extends support to vulnerable populations, ensuring they receive nourishment and care.
Our weekly Community Hot Lunch and Senior Afternoon Tea programs provide an opportunity to enjoy a delicious meal, connect with friends, and share in an afternoon of community and companionship.
