2023 Lunar New Year Celebration Schedule
As the Lunar New Year approaches in celebration of the Year of the Rabbit, Tian-Jin Temple will be holding an event to “Bid Farewell to the Old Year and Welcome to the New Year, starting on Lunar New Year Eve, Jan 21, 2023. Several weeks of activities are scheduled, such as welcoming the new deities, attracting the energy of wealth, giving and receiving blessings, praying to the Prosperity Turtle for a year of good fortune. All families are welcome to visit the temple, make offerings, share in the blessings, and embrace good luck.
Beginning from Lunar New Eve, guests can also pray for financial prosperity or health and wellness by lighting various lanterns (or candles). These lanterns remain lit throughout the Lunar New Year period and can help in many areas, such as wealth, health, academics, and more.
Guests also have the opportunity to participate in the “fortune replenishing treasury” tradition. During the Lunar New Year period, there will be a “fire purification ceremony”, held from the first day to the third day, in which guests step over hot coals overseen by the temple master, to dispel bad luck and avoid calamities. The famous “Seven Star Lantern Ritual” is held daily from the first to the fourth day as well, for guests to get rid of misfortunes and attract good luck. This ritual involves stepping over 7 tall candles arranged in the pattern of a constellation.
