2022 May Ceremony Food Bank fundraising efforts
Twice a year in spring and autumn, Tian-Jin Temple holds the Fahui Ceremony, a religious event where families gather to pay respects to their ancestors. Non-perishable food items are prepared as offerings, and—after the event–donated to the Greater Vancouver Food Bank. In the past decade, the temple has donated more than 200,000 pounds of food.
This year’s ceremony gathered the loving hearts and kind intentions of countless individuals, resulting in the generous donation of 21,353 pounds of food. The total is estimated to be valued at $55,944.86 CAD. This contribution also helped Mayor Mike Hurley achieve the annual Food Bank Challenge by surpassing the expected goal of $70,000. As a result, Mayor Mike Hurley strongly supports the Food Drive organized by Tian-Jin Temple and looks forward to the ceremony each year. Despite his busy schedule, he took the time to visit the temple and assist volunteers in packaging the food for the ceremony.
